Among the many existing tuna species, red tuna is certainly the most prized and sought after for its soft and tasty meat. Worked strictly by hand only in the best periods of the year (May, June and July), this magnificent fish, following the warm currents of the Mediterranean, reaches the Sicilian coasts to lay its eggs. It is caught within a few hours of the fishing trip, using longlines or purse seines.
The Astor tuna fillets, part of our "Donna Franca" selection in glass, stand out for their unique taste, enriched by our extra virgin olive oil. Our tuna is hand-processed following an ancient technique that requires time and care in cutting the fillets, a tradition that we have carried on for many years.
Rich in fatty acids from the Omega 3 family, tuna is important for combating bad cholesterol in the blood. It is an integral part of the Mediterranean diet, and is a very nutritious food and a precious resource for the body's well-being.
